i've been known to change my mind on some subject. yeah, quite a few times.
for example, the band audioslave. they are, on paper, a match made in rock
heaven. or so it seems. it should be, why not?
but alas, the comparison is inevitable, as fans from the previous groups are
prone to be confused, what to make of this new bastard child?
i was one of them. i am a big fan of soundgarden, and i ain't particularly thrilled
at the prospect of chris cornell, the hardest working songwriter in rock/grunge
working with tom morello n the gang. their music was somewhat sparse, as
opposed to the intricate, and almost labyrinthic craftmanship of chris, kim
thayil, and believe it or not, their bassist. is it ben sheperd? i forgot. but the
point is, i don't like rage. no offense, none taken.
and when the slaves' first album came out, i was dumbfounded when chris
chose not to play guitar. the result was not to my liking. sure, some songs
were instant hits. like a stone, and some else.i don't care.
i chose to ignore the second album. i think it'd be the same shit. but then i
changed my mind. i heard 'be yourself' in my friend's car, and i said, 'this is
to good!'. okay maybe i didn't say that. but it was something to that effect.
so i went out to buy the second album. and i liked it. but not enough to
declare soundgarden dead in my head.
and last night i bought their dvd. live performance in cuba. the listing included
some 'garden songs, and i thought 'this better be good'.
i was wrong. they sucked live. hard. to add insult to injury, the 'garden songs they
covered sounded somewhat better than their own songs. that cannot be good.
one event had chris play 'black hole sun' on acoustic.solo. hans solo. i felt sad for
the guy 'cus he was so into it. ha ha.
the funny thing is, towards the end of the solo set, one fan was seen mouthing the
words 'f*** you'.
yeap. yeah. it was funny.
